  Is this new donation arrangement for real?

  just read a post on jwsurvey about the new donation arrangement.

  congregations are to pledge a monthly amount to be sent to the society to fund the building of assembly halls and kingdom halls.

  congregations who already have a loan from the society will no longer have to pay back the loan but the amount pledged should not be less than the current monthly repayments to the society.

  In summary:

  Now Jehovahs Witnesses believe in the Rapture. . . . but they don't call it the Rapture

  And they believe in tithing. . . . . but they don't call it tithing.

  As a side note, I told my wife about this letter and she is very impressed with my predictive "powers." Over a year ago I told her I thought they might implement some sort of tithing arrangement, and she thought that was impossible. Looking at it from a business perspective though (which no JW does) it only makes sense as your base shrinks in developed nations and is expanding in poor uneducated countries.

  One of the elders would be assigned the duty of sitting down with each family head and go over the family tax forms for the past year

  They try that and both my wife and I will tell them to go to fucking hell.

  They want to kick us out for refusing a tithing arangement, then so be it.

  That would define the end for me.

  the circuit assembly

  i am off to the circuit assembly tomorrow.

  not really looking forward to it as it is the first one i will go to after finding out many things on this forum.

  since the last assembly i have read coc, in search of christian freedom, and some of the gentile times reconsidered.

  In accord with what has already been suggested, when I attend an ASSembly, I view it as doing some investigative, social-psychological research. Often the goal of my "research" would be to bring up a "dissonance-inducing" point with my wife.

  I must admit, though, now that my wife has begun to Awaken! herself, she has taken some of the wind out of my sails.

  Now SHE has begun to view it from this standpoint, and she can tick off what the essentially "cult-y" aspects of the ASSembly are for me.

  Honestly, the last one we had, I spent almost the entire day in a nearby Starbucks. That's not a bad option either (if you're a coffee drinker)
